Importance of replacement of brake liquid

The brake liquid is necessary for working of brake system of the car. However the BL is very hygroscopic, therefore it easily absorbs water. Also it absorbs a moisture even from air. Bottles with BL need to be stored densely closed to protect from light. A period of storage of BL in unopened bottles is no more than 5 years.

What is danger in moisture accumulating in BL? Danger is that the boiling temperature decreases. The brake system of car at braking heats up very strongly and this heating is transferred to a brake liquid. If the liquid boils, brake pedal will fail and the car remains without brakes. Chances to lose a brakes increase repeatedly in long descents where often braking is necessary. At each braking the brake way, effort to pedals, length of a course of a pedal vary.

To avoid, change BL in a hydrodrive each two years or through each 40000 km of run, looking what will come earlier. It is not necessary to wait changing of liquid colour.

There are DOT-3, DOT-4, DOT-5 classes for BL classification. They have silicone, glycol and mineral structure. They cannot be mixed with themselves.
